The Leadership Greater Washington Membership
The founders of Leadership Greater Washington envisioned a premier leadership organization renowned for its vibrancy and impact on the Greater Washington region. The founding organizations provided funding, office space, staff support and materials for the start-up and longevity of Leadership Greater Washington. The Greater Washington Board of Trade and the Junior League of Washington, in particular, provided critical financial backing and in-kind services which sustained the organization in its formative years. Many of Leadership Greater Washington's founders continue to provide support and play a role in the organization's on-going success.
Non-Active Members are those who have completed the year-long educational program of Leadership Greater Washington, but are not currently dues-paying members of the organization.
Launched in 1997, the Affiliate Member Program was designed for individuals who have moved to Greater Washington and graduated from community leadership programs outside the metro region. The program gives Affiliate Members the opportunity to serve their community through Leadership Greater Washington. The program has evolved since its inception, and affiliate members now participate in portions of the current class program year. This allows them to develop connections to its members after completing the initial program year and become full Leadership Greater Washington members. Affiliates are eligible to participate in all functions of the organization and in appointments or election to Board of Directors, with the exception of the Chair and Chair Elect positions.
