Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac: What Does Their Future Mean for the Washington Region's Nonprofit Community?

After Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were placed into conservatorship in 2008, our region began to wonder what the philanthropic impact would be on our region. As part of this assessment, the 8 Neighbors group commissioned George Mason University's Center for Regional Analysis to take a detailed look at the future Fannie and Freddie's local giving and explore what needs to happen in our region as the two step down as philanthropic giants and a void is created.
